Our mission at Sanford Pride is to work together to create an event of true community celebration. Our objective is to help the Sanford community access resources to shape a supportive, diverse, and accepting environment for all by creating unique events and opportunities to address the needs and concerns of all citizens, both in and outside of the LGBTQ+ community. By coming together we will promote a message of love and understanding for all of Sanford to embrace.
Our vision for the future of Sanford Pride is to establish a center that will provide the resources and support which are needed within the Seminole County area. Sanford Pride will continue working with businesses, organizations and agencies at local, state, and federal levels to identify and address the issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, and to create events and opportunities to support, educate, and assist our community.
Our Sanford Pride experience began in 2016 when a small group of individuals came together and put the concept of Pride on the community table. It was in November of 2016 that the founders Michael Foster and Brian Patterson began work with local business owners and community leaders to test the waters to see if Sanford Pride would be supported by the local community.
On that momentous day in 2016 Pride was presented to our community and our city, and to our delight Pride was met with great enthusiasm and support. Our Mayor Jeff Triplett encouraged us to build an annual Pride event and in 2017 we held our first annual Sanford Pride Festival.
Both years of the official Sanford Pride Festivals were supported and attended by national, state, and local community leaders as well as community activists and LQBTQ advocates, and most importantly, by our locals themselves. We look forward to sharing another great Pride experience with our community in 2019!
